Skateboard Bowling & the ER

Our youth group had a great event last night…”I Can’t Believe I Just Did That”  They had a blast playing all kinds of outrageous games…including skateboard bowling.  My son in his attempt to knock down all the pins (which he did) ended up ramming his head into the bleachers at a pretty good speed.   He blacked out for a few moments, so when he got home and we checked in with the doctor, they insisted on a visit to the ER.  My wife insisted she go because I needed my rest for Sunday morning.  It was hard to rest knowing they were at the ER.  I got about 3 hours of sleep.  They left home at 11:30 pm and rolled back in at 5:15 am.  Thank God he only has a sore jaw and neck, but no serious damage.   Sherri and Zac missed church for the first time in a long time.  Zac is our “chair guy” for set up and tear down, so he was definitely missed this morning.  I got through my preaching part on little sleep.  An exhausting 24 hours…

The funny part (since he is ok) is that my wife took the video clip of the incident to the ER and showed the doctor which he got a real kick out of…he reminded her of a character on Scrubs.  He thought the activity was hilarious, but that Zac and his friends should be more careful.  Then she had to explain that this was a church sponsored event :-)

myFamily: Priorities

Tomorrow I continue with part 4 of 5 of our myFamily series.  I will be talking about priorities…how we spend (or waste) our time.

I came across this statistic…if we spend 2 hours per day watching TV, and live to be 70, then we will have spent 5.8 years of our lives watching television.    Most people would not list TV in their top priorities, but how much time do we give to it???

I will be sharing this verse tomorrow from Ecclesiastes 3:14 “I know that everything God does will endure forever.”  If we want our lives to be lived for something that lasts, we need to make sure we are living according to God’s priorities.

You ever struggle with it?  I know I can at times.  I found this article on Yahoo to be a good read on the subject.  I don’t know if I totally agree, but the writer makes some very good points.

Read it here.

Last week I was on the phone with a friend on was on a business trip.  As we were talking, he pulled into Outback Steakhouse for dinner…by himself.  As we continued the conversation, he placed his order…it was all I could stand to listen to him order the filet mignon and lobster (it’s on the company’s tab :-)).   So here’s my top 5 favorite restaurants:

  1. Outback
  2. Red Lobster
  3. Macaroni Grill
  4. Famous Dave’s
  5. On The Border (for my wife)

Idol Gives Back

Wow…what a show last night.  I was entertained, but more importantly I was moved and convicted by the video clips.  Yes, I say I care about missions and world hunger…but I can get so caught up and focused on our church and our mission in Northern Virginia, that I just don’t think about the rest of the world very often.  Last night’s show was very convicting and we feel compelled to give something to help…it’s amazing how much further a dollar goes in Africa.

* On a side note, we were relieved at the end…we almost lost Jordin!

dadkidsinocean.jpgUntil my family heads to the beach!  Warm weather has me thinking about summer time and our annual family vacation…so I went to my calendar to see how many days until we head to Myrtle…only 87 :-)  Here’s a picture from last year…good memories!

Religion is good for kids

Kids with religious parents are better behaved and adjusted than other children, according to a new study that is the first to look at the effects of religion on young child development.  Read the entire story from Fox news here.

This is simply reinforcing what we are talking about in our myFamily series at LCC.

Case of the Mondays

You know what I am talking about?  I’m feeling exhausted today…kind of sleepy.  Sunday is the most exhausting day for me.  Some pastors take off Mondays, but I’d rather work Monday and try to get everything done Monday through Thursday, so I can have a relaxing Friday.  Sometimes this theory actually works :-)

camdenyards.jpgGorgeous day…awesome weekend weather…finally here!  My son and I decided to go to one of my favorite places last night - Oriole Park at Camden Yards.  It’s just the best park in baseball…awesome atmosphere, food and the O’s won 5-2…a great Saturday night.

We had a great service today…I sense that God is using this series, myFamily, to encourage mom and dads and their kids to work harder at being all that God wants them to be in their homes.

A busy & exhausting day.  Church, then baseball practice with my son’s team, off for a grocery store run now…or else the kids are buying lunch tomorrow.
