A 2-week recap

25 01 2009

Yes…it’s been awhile since I blogged…I’m going with the oral surgery excuse.  About 2 weeks ago I had a 2+ hour oral surgery that ended up being an incredibly long and painful recovery.  I missed almost an entire week of work and could not preach last Sunday.  It was unexpected and unplanned and just about drove me crazy.  I think I did pretty much drive my wife crazy.  Anyway, I’m about 90% recovered now and glad to be back in the game!

Today was the last Sunday of January…and what a great day it was.  This has easily been our best January ever statistically.  The band was great today and I really enjoyed preaching on Moses & the Red Sea.  Glad to see some new families for the first and 2nd times.  We getting close to full in the cafeteria…and good problem…the school needs to hurry up and get the auditorium done!

Some miscellaneous tidbits of life…

  • My 5 month old son said “dada” this week.  He doesn’t realize that me, but it’s cool anyway!
  • I’m definitely pulling for the Cardinals to win the Super Bowl.  Go Kurt!
  • My 15 yo son has his learner’s permit now…our 2nd driving session was much better than the first!
  • I use too many exclamation points!!!  Sorry!
  • I’m hoping for a little snow this week and then I’m ready for Spring.  This below 30 degrees stuff is no fun.
  • I am excited about our leadership meeting this Wednesday night…got some great stuff to share and discuss.
  • Josh and I had a great message series planning meeting for 2009 this week.  We just about have the year mapped out.  It’s going to be a lot of fun…some great creative ideas coming your way.
  • I’m bummed about the 8 families in our church that have told me they are transferring away from DC this summer.  It stinks!  I can’t get used to it.  God always sends new reinforcements…but we are losing some great people this year.
  • I’m trying to remember what to do on Sunday afternoons now that football is basically over…feeling a little lost today…

A Quick Update

8 01 2009

It’s been a busy week…just realized I forgot to do my Monday morning blog…so I’ll try to catch up and recap a little about the church and personal life now.

  • The Life & Times of Moses series kicked off this past Sunday.  I’m looking forward to part 2 – the Burning Bush from Exodus 3-4.  As I prepared for this Sunday, I was amazed at how many excuses Moses made to God to try to escape the calling God had put on his life.  I was convicted by how often I make the same excuses.  So come this Sunday for a convicting message :-)
  • My Monday afternoon was exciting.  My oldest – my 15 yo son Zac – got his learner’s permit. On the way home, after turning off of the main road, I pulled the car over about a mile and half from home.  He wondered why…at first…but then figured it out.  He drove the last 1.5 miles…first time ever behind the wheel.  It was should we say…intense, frightening, wild?  He did fine.  The next lesson will be in an empty parking lot.  I got home and went right into feeding my 5 month old his green beans :-)   Life is good.
  • Our Relocation team had a great meeting last night.  I’m looking forward to presenting The Next Step for LCC in a few weeks.  We believe God has a permanent facility out there for us and we are taking steps to get ready for that big step.  I’ll be saying more as we get closer.
  • I’m looking forward to presenting our new PRAYER CARD this Sunday.  We’ve done an annual prayer card with 5 key prayer items for our church for the last 2 years and we’ve seen God answer in amazing ways.  This year we are going to do an initial prayer card for January-April and then put out an updated card at that time.  We’ll be distributing the cards on Sunday and I’ll post it here as well.
  • I’m looking forward to Sunday night’s debut of 24.  It’s been awhile and can’t wait for a new season!
  • My playoff pics for this week:  Ravens over Titans, Panthers over Cardinals, Eagles over Giants, Chargers over Steelers.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I am excited to see what God has in store for Life Community Church in 2009. I hope that you will commit yourself to be a part of what God is doing in our church. You may be receiving this email and feeling a little guilty about skipping services or lacking commitment in some area…why don’t you just let that go and start afresh and anew in ’09! Make a new commitment and start by being at church this Sunday with your family.

This Sunday kicks off a brand-new series, The Life and Times of Moses. This is going to be a great study from the book of Exodus. The story of Moses is brimming over with real life application for us. I hope you’ll join us this Sunday.

Our 2009 Boxed Offering Envelopes have arrived and will be on a table in the lobby beginning this Sunday. Please look for the box with your name on it and make a fresh commitment in 2009 to be faithful in your giving.

The next BASICS of LIFE CLASS is coming so on. Are you new to LCC? Do you want to find out more about the church? Do you want to f ind out how to become an official member? My wife and I will be hosting the next class on Sunday, January 25th from 5-8 pm at our home. Send me an email to register.

In closing, I want to say a big THANK YOU for the Christmas love offering that was given to the staff. We are all very thankful for the opportunity to serve God and to serve you at LCC.

See you Sunday!
