Weekend Post

31 05 2009

It was another busy, but awesome weekend.  Here’s a quick recap…

Friday Night:

  • Zac and I went over to B’more to catch the Orioles game.  It had been over a year since I had been to Camden Yards.  It was a great game.  We were there for the debut of Matt Wieters…the top prospect in all of baseball.  He went 0 for 4 but the O’s had a sweet victory.  It was a lot of fun to be with 42,000 fans and see the excitement for the O’s coming back!  It’s been awhile!  And it was nice to have a Boog’s BBQ sandwich…nothing compares!

Saturday:

  • The morning started with Lexi’s softball game.  Her team won 18-7.  She had 2 walks and an RBI and got the game ball!
  • Then we had our Life Group at the Tingstrom’s home with an early afternoon cookout.  We had a great study on the Rich Fool from Luke 12.
  • Then we hurried off to Zac’s Seniors game…and another victory 7-2.  Our team (which I manage) is now 11-1 and have outscored our opponents this season 131-36…that doesn’t seem right, does it?
  • Then a little sermon review with some NBA and MLB on tv in the background.

Sunday:

  • Great service this morning!  Great to have so many back who travelled last weekend.  Nice to have the cafeteria full again!
  • It was also great to have Rob VanEngen and his wife and daughter visiting today.  Rob was a youth pastor friend who served at another church in Lynchburg when I was there in the early 90’s.  We did some great youth group retreats together with our churches.  Rob is now a professor at Liberty University.  Great to have him surprise us today.
  • Josh & the worship band did a great job of leading us this morning.  Great worship set!
  • Wayne Bale welcomed everyone today.  Wayne and his wife JoAnn are the new life group directors for LCC.  They are taking over for Dan & Nicki who are moving to Texas in a few weeks.  I love Wayne’s enthusiasm for our church and for reaching out and bringing in new people.   He and JoAnn have personally brought almost their entire neighborhood to LCC!
  • Some new volunteers are stepping up to fill some ministry vacancies.  While more are needed, it is exciting to see many step up and serve.
  • Looking forward to our outdoor service on Father’s Day.  Don’t miss it on June 21st.  Cookout, Full Live Band, Free Gift for dads, and don’t forget to B.Y.O.C.

Auditorium Renovation Picture

25 05 2009

We got a sneak peak yesterday into the school’s renovation progress of the auditorium.  Check out the picture below.  I cannot wait to  get our services out of the cafeteria and back into the auditorium.  They are projecting July completion…and it actually looks possible now!

newauditorium3Yesterday’s service went well.  The crowd was down because of the holiday.  Literally counted about 20 families that we knew were traveling!  Still a great service.

Great Weekend

18 05 2009

Recapping Sunday…

  • Great start to the Idiot Box series…of course I’m looking forward to the season finale of 24!
  • Josh & band…great job as usual.  Kicked in a new song yesterday from Chris Tomlin – God of this City.
  • Some first time guests yesterday…always nice to see new faces.
  • Some new volunteers stepping up to fill some open positions of service…gotta love that!
  • Nicki did a great job on the “welcome.”  We are going to greatly miss her, Dan and Tyler as they leave for Texas next month.  We’ve got a big crop of incredible people leaving us this summer :-(   This is church life in the DC metro area!

Saturday…

  • Lexi’s team won their softball game 16-11.  I keep the scorebook…talk about filling in a lot of diamonds!
  • Zac’s baseball team won 11-1.  I manage this team…and we had a great game to improve our record to 6-1.
  • Zac and Tori participated in our Youth group yard sale fundraiser for camp in the morning.  The group raised over $530!
  • We attended our life group on Saturday night.  Had a great salad and an incredible Strawberry Cake for dessert.  The lesson on the Unmerciful Servant parable was great discussion!  Thanks Mike for leading us!

Looking forward to a great week ahead!

A Great Mother’s Day!

11 05 2009

We experienced a great Mother’s Day service at LCC yesterday.

  • The service was packed – our best non-Easter crowd to date.
  • The baby dedication went great…6 boys were dedicated to the Lord yesterday.
  • The music was excellent…great to have David in town as our guest drummer.  (Josh is currently looking for a regular weekly drummer for the band.)
  • Great atmosphere of worship and fellowship…and I believe all the moms were honored yesterday.

It was a busy family weekend…seems like it started on Thursday…

  • On Thursday, we enjoyed having my parents in town and attending Lexi’s Spring School Concert
  • On Friday, I completed my 2 current seminary classes -  finals and papers and then we had baseball at night.
  • On Saturday, we had 3 baseball games and a birthday party.
  • On Sunday, we had Sherri’s mom in town for mom’s day…and then I finally got to mow the embarrassingly tall grass in my yard last night!

It was a fun weekend…but I’m glad Monday is here.  I’m looking foward to…

  • Starting our new series next Sunday – The Idiot Box.  Check it out.
  • Our church leadership team meeting on Tuesday night…love those people and love talking about the future.
  • Our church’s Outdoor Service on Father’s Day…always a blast.
  • Watching Zac’s last 3 school JV Baseball games this week.
  • Watching Tori’s Middle School soccer tournament games this week.
  • Watching Lexi play softball on Saturday.
  • Seeing what new thing Nic will learn to do this week.
  • Our beach vacation in the Outer banks…only about 81 days away :-)

Monday Morning Post

4 05 2009

Great weekend!  God is good!

  • Great service yesterday at LCC.  Nice attendance comeback from the week before!
  • Josh & band did a great job leading us…introducing a new song while bringing back an old classic…nice mix.
  • Took a peek in the auditorium…renovations are moving along…it’s going to be sweet to move back in there (although even sweeter will be getting our own place!)
  • First time guests yesterday from Stafford…good to draw more from the South!  They said they felt like they had finally found their home church.
  • Looking forward to the Mother’s Day service next week and the 6 Baby Dedications!
  • Speaking of mothers…we went up and back to Pennsylvania on Saturday to celebrate my mom’s 60th Birthday…it was great to visit with family.  I can’t believe she is 60…she’s a young 60!
  • My wife had a long day…but I’m so proud of her and her commitment to the ministry.  Sherri directed the Children’s Ministry all morning, then went from church to the Mother’s Brunch where she shared a message she had prepared for the ladies.  I think she got in making dinner and some laundry last night as well :-)   I am blessed!
  • Surgeries, Illness, Etc.  It seems like we are in a phase right now of having lots of hurting people or those with close family members hurting.  Too many to list.  Please pray for those in a church body… Here’s a few to prayer for (without the names):
    • pregnant mom getting put on bedrest
    • a father just diagnosed with lymphoma and starting chemo this week
    • a mom suddenly ill and just passing away
    • a hernia surgery
    • a live-in elderly mom getting progressively worse
    • 2 knee surgeries
    • a back surgery with an infection
    • a family relationship in crisis
    • a major career decision involving a move required to be made this week
  • This week will be a busy one for me…it’s the last week of my seminary semester.  I have 3 papers yet to write and 2 final exams…plus the normal church work of the week…plus a few kids ball games.  A few rainouts won’t be such a bad thing!
