Monday Morning… Monday, May 24 2010

Monday Morning…time for a quick weekend recap:

  • Awesome worship service yesterday at LCC.  The band was great…could really hear the crowd singing out yesterday.  Great kick-off to the new series on THE SPIRIT.  I’m really enjoying teaching this series.  The crowd was energetic and bigger!  It’s great to see more and more new faces.
  • It was great to have a lady back that we hadn’t seen for years.  She thanked me repeatedly for still being here and she committed to being back every Sunday.  It was a reminder about the importance of perseverance, faithfulness, consistency, and longevity.
  • It was an extremely busy weekend with bringing in a potential Next Gen Pastor Candidate and his wife.  We had multiple dinners, interviews and gatherings with them.  It ended with a party of 40 church leaders & teens last night at our house.   It was exhausting, but thorough.  Pray for us as we are praying through these upcoming decisions.
  • Church softball team won the Saturday doubleheader to improve to 5-1.  Dominating performances!
  • My son’s team I manage improved to 10-0 on the season…5 games to go to a perfect season.
  • The LCC Students raised over $500 towards their missions trip at the yard sale on Saturday.  Thanks to all who helped and donated to make that happen.  They leave for their trip with WorldChangers on July 5th.
  • Glad to be done with seminary for the Spring.  Taking the summer off before diving back in this Fall.  5 classes to go.
  • Looking forward to 24 tonight…going to miss that show.  ALSO – we DVR’d the big LOST finale from last night…so we’ll be wrapping that up this week, too.  Looks like we’ll have some more time on our hands in the future 🙂
  • The week ahead…processing feedback about our interviews, preparing for this Sunday, a weekend wedding, and of course a few baseball and softball games thrown in there…should be a good week!

LCC E-NEWS 5.19.10 Wednesday, May 19 2010

“THE SPIRIT” – our new 4-week series begins this Sunday, May 23rd.  The Holy Spirit is mentioned more than 800 times in the Bible, yet many people misunderstand or know very little about Him.  Be here Sunday as we discuss the Presence of the Spirit and how He impacts our lives.  The service begins at 10:30…don’t be late!

This Sunday, we will welcome Jeff & Nicole Keeny to our church.  Jeff is candidating for the position of Next Generation Pastor at LCC.  Don’t miss your opportunity to meet them on Sunday after the service.

Also, if you have a child in Kindergarten through 5th grade, they don’t want to miss KIDS CHURCH this Sunday.  Kid’s Church is ‘goin western’ this week!  Lots of surprises are planned.  Don’t let your kids miss out on the fun!

As always, check out our church website for updates on what is happening at LCC.  Check out the church calendar for information on upcoming series, youth events, softball schedules and all that good stuff!  Don’t miss out on the opportunities to connect and make new friends at LCC.

See You Sunday,

Steve

Weekend Recap Monday, May 10 2010

Random Monday morning thoughts…

  • Awesome Mother’s Day service at LCC!  Great crowd.  Baby dedication is always a special time…love to see parents make that commitment.
  • Thanks to Ed for providing roses for all the ladies at the end of the service.  We love all our LCC moms!
  • Appreciate all the work done by Debbie, our preschool coordinator.  The Mother’s Day craft was awesome!  Lots of parents raving about the photos!   Thanks to all our kid’s workers and especially the moms who served yesterday.
  • Great to have a new family yesterday who was brought by another fairly new family.  It’s awesome to see people catching the vision and spreading the word about LCC!
  • Our church softball team won both games of the doubleheader on Sunday over Potomac Crest Baptist.  30-4 and 21-9.  Yikes.  Way to go guys and gal 🙂  I enjoyed playing, but I’m still sore 2 days later…it stinks getting older!
  • Personally, it was a busy weekend with our oldest going to his Junior Prom.  He had a great time and we’re proud of him.  Got some incredible pictures of he and his girlfriend on my Facebook page.  I know I say it alot, but it’s hard to believe I have a kid that old.  Sherri and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary this August…blows me away!
  • I just called an audible and decided that yesterday will be the end of our To Save A Family series.  Instead of extending it one more week, I am going to preach a message this Sunday on the Story of Stephen from Acts 6&7.  I cannot recall preaching this story before and am looking forward to sharing the secrets of Stephen’s success.   Then we’ll start a 4-week series on the Holy Spirit on May 23rd.
  • Also, on May 21-23, we are bringing in our first candidate and his wife who are interviewing for the Next Generation Pastor position here at LCC.  Pray that God will guide me and our search team through the interview process that weekend.  Also, pray for the candidate.  I’m very excited about what God has in store for us.  We’ve narrowed it down to 2 candidates.
  • It’s going to be a crazy parent week…Zac has a baseball game every day from Monday through Saturday for either school or rec league.   Tori has 2 softball games as well.  And on top of that my seminary class ends on Friday and I have those deadlines.  It’s going to be busy…but fun!

Weekend Recap Monday, May 3 2010

Sometimes the weekend just feels like a blur…and while this one was full and busy, it had some great moments both in our family and in our church and I’m just feeling very thankful today for how much God has blessed me in my life.

  • Our Sunday service theme was on forgiveness in our families.  We had a great set of worship songs to support the theme.  Josh coming back at the end to lead us in “How He Loves”  was powerful as I read off the 3×5 cards of things we all had written down that we need forgiveness for.  I know God was working in many lives by the conversations I’ve been having since the service ended.  Changed lives – why we do what we do!
  • Crowd was lower than the norm yesterday – 3 S’s were affecting us – Sickness, Sun and Soccer!  Hope to see all our people back next week for our Mother’s Day service.
  • I appreciate the new nursery director we have…thanks to Michelle Boice for stepping up in leadership!  and thanks to all the workers who came early yesterday to attend the training session.
  • I am thrilled to see new families returning and getting plugged into the church.
  • The LCC Women had a great event on Saturday…heard great things about it from my wife.  I sincerely appreciate the way our ladies reach out and care for one another.
  • Our Softball team had the weekend off, but will be back in action this coming Saturday at 11 am.  Go LCC!
  • Things are moving along in our Next Gen Pastor Search.   Keep praying!
  • On Saturday, I enjoyed coaching Zac’s rec league baseball team to a 15-2 victory.  We’re off to a 4-0 start and having a blast.  Thanks to those who prayed for his eye injury…amazingly quick recovery – praise God for that!
  • I’m amazed at how much energy my 20 month old son requires right now…he is non-stop and still learning about boundaries…I feel bad, but some nights we all are pretty excited about his bedtime so we can relax 🙂
  • Worked for 3+ hours doing yard work yesterday in the hot sun and 90 degrees…mowing, weed wacking, etc.  I’m not sure why, but I actually really enjoyed the workout (hope my wife doesn’t read this).
  • Also, want to give a shout out to my awesome parents who both celebrated their birthdays in the past few days.  I could not have been blessed with better parents.  Thanks for the legacy you are giving to me and my kids by being who you are!
  • Lots on my plate this week, but it should be a good one.  I’m taking off Thursday to chaperone my 4th grade daughter’s field trip to Jamestown…should be a fun one.

Come out for pizza tonight! Thursday, Apr 29 2010

Come on out tonight (April 29th) and support our Youth Group by eating pizza! That’s right – eating pizza. Join us at the CiCi’s in Woodbridge (next to the Home Depot) any time between 4:00 and 8:00 pm. Our youth missions trip fund will receive 15% of the total money spent tonight. All you have to do is drop your receipt in the container, eat pizza and enjoy the fellowship! See you tonight!

Weekend Recap Monday, Apr 26 2010

It’s Monday morning…time for a quick weekend recap:

  • Great service yesterday at LCC.  Very good crowd – we just completed our highest average attendance month!  Worship was awesome – great to hear the congregation really singing out to our Everlasting God!
  • The Family series continues to hit home 🙂  I appreciate the positive comments.  It’s great to hear how God is using these messages to impact lives and strengthen the families in our church.
  • Thanks for the prayers for my oldest son – Zac – who had an ER visit on Thursday night after getting hit in the eye by a pitched baseball.  No serious damage and he is recovering quickly.
  • The Next Gen Pastor search is moving into the next round of interviews.  We’ve narrowed it down to 3 great guys and are praying for discernment as we move forward.
  • Great to see some old friends and have some original core team members of LCC back and worshipping with us yesterday!  I still think back to those early days and thank God for that group of 20 committed people that helped to birth LCC.
  • Praying that the school will allow us to move the Kids Church program from the chorus room to the gym for this Fall.  The current room is just too small…no room for any growth and we are planning on growing big time!
  • I can’t believe my Orioles actually won a game yesterday…wow, they are 3-16 now!
  • It’s still April, but I like what the Redskins have done in the offseason…looking forward to the Fall.
  • Dreading taking Zac back to opthomologist this afternoon.  We spent 8 hours combined in emergency room, doctor’s offices and pharmacies this weekend…enough already!
  • I finally caved and let Lexi adopt a little dog from another family.  It’s a 5 year old Pappiyon.   Smaller than a cat.  She just wore me down over time with begging, email, and typed letters.
  • It’s going to be an incredible busy week…can’t wait to see what God does!

LCC E-news 4.22.10 Thursday, Apr 22 2010

The “To Save A Family” series continues this Sunday with the message “Strong Families Raise Good Decisions Makers.” Catch all the messages on iTunes if you miss a service. Our key Scripture for Sunday is Deuteronomy 6:4-7. Don’t miss worship this Sunday at 10:30 and invite another family to join us!

Our baby dedication service will take place on Mother’s Day, May 9th as part of the regular morning worship service. Go to our home page to register: www.lifecc.us

Our Next Generation Pastor search is moving along. We have received over 280 resumes. We narrowed that down to 22, then to 6, and now to 3. The search team has been working diligently with me on this process. Pray for me as I will be conducting Skype webcam interviews of the top 3 in next week as we seek the right person to bring to LCC to lead our student and children’s ministries.

If you are a regular part of our church body, I want to challenge you in your giving. LCC has been blessed by God financially. So many of you are faithful, sacrificial givers to this ministry and I want you to know how much I appreciate you. LCC is strong and is not hurting financially at all, but I want to challenge all of us to step up our giving to another level. With the additional staff member coming this summer, our expenses will be increasing. We want to see our giving increase as well. My wife and I give weekly via e-give and we recently raised our weekly amount by $30. What could you do? If you haven’t been giving, why not start now? If you give $50/week, maybe you could give $100. If you give $500/month, maybe you could increase to $600. Pray about becoming an automatic e-giver through our website so that your giving is more consistent. Do what God leads you to do!

See You Sunday,
Steve

Weekend Recap Monday, Apr 19 2010

It’s Monday morning…lots going on here.  Here’s a quick recap of my weekend:

  • Sunday worship went great.  Josh introduced a new song to our church – Say, Say by Kristian Stanfill…I think it will be a keeper!   The family series seems to really be making an impact.  I love to hear people talking afterwards about how they are going to apply the biblical principles.  Let’s fight well in our families!  Don’t forget Phil 2:3-4!
  • Looks like we have a great group for our church softball team this year…not sure about the talent :-), but it’s about the fellowship, right?  First game next Saturday at 1:30 pm at the stadium field.
  • We had an awesome life group at our house last night – the discussion was lively and very insightful.  It’s amazing how much our group has opened up and grown together since we started this one last October.  very cool!
  • I was up to 2 am on Sunday morning picking up my son at his high school from an FBLA conference.  I get up at 6 am on Sundays to prepare.  I was less than thrilled to be preaching on 4 hours of sleep!  But God gave me excellent energy and clarity of thought…and the Red Bull at 10:15 am helped a little too.  I had been saving it for the right occasion.
  • My son’s Yankees team (15-16yo boys) that I coach had our first game on Saturday afternoon.  We were trailing 3-1 and scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th to pull of a 4-3 victory.  Nice to start the season 1-0.  I love coaching baseball and building relationships with these awesome young men!
  • The process of searching for our Next Gen Pastor at LCC is moving forward.  We have now stopped receiving resumes…after 3 weeks we had received about 280!  We narrowed it down to 20 and are now honing in on a top 5.  Pray that God shows me and our search team the right man for the job.  The team meets on Wednesday night this week.  This is an exciting process and God has great things in store for our church.
  • Our youth group completed the 30-hour famine on Friday & Saturday.  They went 30 hours without food!  Awesome!  They did this to raise money to feed the hungry.  You can still give to support the effort.  Check out this link: http://www.30hourfamine.org/portal/onlinegiving/donate/103240912-011

Strong Families Fight Well! Friday, Apr 16 2010

I promise NOT to read this book to you on Sunday…but I do promise to teach you some family-changing principles from the BIBLE about how to fight well as a family!  Fighting is a fact of life.  We’ll just never agree on everything.  We need to learn how to handle those situations…that occur almost daily.  Don’t miss Sunday!
